Julian’s Prayer

God, of your goodness, give me yourself; you are enough for me.
—Julian of Norwich, Revelations of Divine Love

Under the trees
in the early morning,
I listened to the birds sing to each other
and breathed a prayer
that was once only words:

God, of Your goodness
give me Yourself;
You are enough for me.

I thought of a wholly good God
wanting to answer that prayer,
answering it before I asked,

and I wondered:
How are You giving Yourself to me?

I could tell you
what I heard in reply
as we camped
in the sunshine
and the rain
but my discoveries would only be
words to you.

God wants to tell you Herself.

So ask.

In SoulStream‘s first episode of the Living from the Heart podcast series, my friends Rod Janz and Deb Arndt share their experiences of what it means to live from the heart. What stood out for me as I listened, was this prayer of Julian’s that Deb prayed in a difficult time. I felt an invitation to pray it too.
